Officials are set to consider licences for 14 golf courses on Cyprus which would lead to thousands of new properties being built, it has been reported.
According to propertywire.com, the main issue has been around the scarcity of water in the area and it is likely that officials will insist on renewable energy powered desalination plants being built.
The golf courses are expected to be located in Paphos, Limassol, Tersefanous in Larnaca and one in Ayia Napa.
Licences cost a minimum of five million euros but this may increase when the benefits to businesses involved in the project have been assessed.
The applications will be seen by the Council of Ministers in the next four weeks, the website reports.
